What Are the Top Strategies for Naturally Boosting Your LinkedIn Followers?

LinkedIn doesn’t get as much press or attention as its larger social network rivals like Facebook or Instagram. However, it is quickly becoming one of the primary ways that organizations and brands interact with each other. According to a survey conducted by LinkedIn’s own Marketing Solutions department, 82% of B2B marketers realize their greatest success on the platform. This means that any brand with a strong B2B focus needs to make LinkedIn their number one priority. But growing your LinkedIn follower count without resorting to advertising can be tricky.

Let’s explore some of the best strategies that brands should be using to boost their LinkedIn followers!

Harness the Power of Your Team

Have you ever bought a product after reading a glowing recommendation from a friend or a colleague? This is one of the clearest demonstrations that people will trust other people and their expertise – more than a marketing message from a brand in most cases.

So, when your brand is crafting a LinkedIn strategy, involve your team of employees as much as possible. Tapping into their networks of connections is one of the most basic ways to build brand awareness.

What kind of content should your team post? The best content will fall under two categories:

  • Authentic, Off-the-Cuff Content: posts about day-to-day work and what it’s like to work for your brand are authentic and demonstrate a human side to your brand.
  • Thought-Leadership Content: showcases the expertise of your team (and your brand in general).

Finally, ask your team to invite their networks to follow your brand page. It takes just a few seconds to do, but it gives you the best chance to reach their extended networks. The numbers can really add up, especially if your team members are already rock stars on LinkedIn!

Post Consistently

We’re always asked how often a brand should be posting to their social channels. The answer is usually “it depends!”

However, in general, a brand should strive to create and post as many high-quality posts as possible. For some, that may be several posts a day. For others, it may be closer to once a week.

According to LinkedIn, brands that post once a week grow their followers seven times faster than those that only post on a monthly basis.

So, at a minimum, your brand should try to post once every week. The key here is consistency. Brands that are consistent with their posting schedule will see their follower counts increase consistently.

Be Creative to Spark Engagement

Consistent messaging is important, no matter what format your content or digital marketing strategy takes. However, LinkedIn takes content in a wide variety of formats. Long-form content, infographics, carousel slideshows, and video are all ways a brand can showcase their content.

This means that you have a lot of room for creativity and experimentation in your content creation strategy. The goal here should be to find the format that sparks the most engagement with your follower base.

Why is engagement important? It’s how posts ultimately get shown to more users. It’s how posts go viral and brands get the most visibility.

The next time you’re stuck and unsure what to post, try switching it up with your content format. If you usually post long-form content, try a short video post and see what happens. You may end up finding greater success and a more engaged audience!

Don’t Forget to Engage with Your Follower Base

However, it’s also important to realize that engagement is a two-way street. In order to really maximize growth of your LinkedIn follower count, don’t just rely on your followers engaging with your posts. Your brand will need to engage with its followers too!

Reply to comments, share content from your followers, and join conversations on the platform. Try to keep a consistent brand voice when doing so, but don’t sound stiff either.

While LinkedIn is a platform for professionals, a light tone can go a long way in creating trust and closing the engagement loop.

Keep Your Branding Consistent

Your brand voice comprises more than just the tone and language of your posts. Are you using your brand’s colors when you create graphics? Your brand’s font?

Even if you’re posting something light and unrelated to your brand or its services, your followers should still be able to recognize your branding in your post.

You don’t need to make it super obvious, but by keeping your branding consistent, you build more brand awareness.

Use LinkedIn’s Own Tools to Grow Follower Counts

LinkedIn is more than just a feed of content posts. There are so many other tools you can use to get the word out there about your brand. Here are a few that are worth a shot:

  • Product Pages: If your brand offers specific products or services, you can choose to highlight them by creating Product Pages for them on your main profile. This feature packs a lot of functionality and is criminally undervalued – it’s one of the best ways to boost your brand’s discoverability.
  • Recommendations: Invite your biggest fans to give a testimonial on these product pages. Recommendations are one of the most important ways to build trust with prospective clients.
  • Newsletters: Only available once your brand page has over 150 followers. However, it’s a great way to share valuable content and news to your community.
  • Events: Hosting a webinar or in-person event? Promote it on LinkedIn Events!

Use Metrics and Reports to Figure Out What’s Working

LinkedIn offers an analytics page that gives valuable insights into your brand’s page and posts. Use the information you glean here to inform your content strategy.
