TikTok Creates the Infinite Sales Loop
You’ve probably heard about the sales funnel. It’s a basic process that tracks how potential customers move from hearing about your product or service to making a purchase.
While there are many variations on this idea, the basic steps are:

- Conversion
- Sale
Now, TikTok has defined a new type of sales funnel, except it’s in the shape of a loop. It’s a direct result of the massive effect social media and the internet have had on users looking to make a purchase.
No longer do they follow a breadcrumb trail. Instead, consumers can enter, exit, and then re-enter the purchase journey depending on what they’re looking for, and based on their needs and wants.
While the funnel has its own benefits, it tends to encourage a one time purchase that discourages brand building and creating relationships with customers. That’s not the best solution for growing a business.
Consider your own journey when you’re searching for a pair of jeans – digging through the results can lead you into multiple directions. You might bookmark one or two sites, and another option appears – different materials, styles, or colors.
Then you’re off on a new journey – checking out social media, blogs, and videos. In the end you might return to purchase those jeans, but there’s no guarantee you’ll follow the same steps other users will.
That’s the loop.
TikTok’s Take
The social media giant took an in depth look at user journeys, content, and behavior – then they realized that putting the power of purchasing into their users’ hands was the path to follow – and built content around their behaviors.
It’s “follow the leader”, with the consumer in the front of the line.
The loop has no start or stop point, and that allows brands to engage with their consumers every step of the way. That’s what helps build relationships and brand communities that make repeat purchases, spend more, and most importantly: tell their friends.
TikTok recently published a study on their platform and user habits, which shows that the community is always looking to learn and discover something new.
This behavior has revealed that TikTokers are 1.5 times more likely to make a purchase almost immediately after they find it on this platform.
Riding the Loop
Taking advantage of this model starts with incorporating TikTok into your marketing plans, whether you’re offering a product or service. Riding the coattails of this platform can bring in new customers, boost your brand, and contribute to your bottom line.
The challenge you’ll face is creating the right content that appeals to your audiences. Setting up an account is easy, but getting the most out of it takes time and patience. Remember you’re trying to entice a very savvy audience, and their attention span can be measured in seconds.
Account setup might be easy, but you’ll also want to build a profile that hits all of the right notes. This includes linking it to other social media channels, incorporating your brand logos, and writing a bio that includes a call to action.
Obviously the most important piece of this equation is the video. It has to include captivating content and excellent sound and video quality. Today’s smartphones are up to this task, and like any other skill – practice makes perfect. (Sometimes it will take a lot of practice!)
