Our Favorite Content Creation Tools and Resources

Content is at the heart of the internet. From social media pages to website blogs and YouTube videos, engaging content gets people talking and gets eyes on your business. However, content creation can be laborious – especially for those just starting out. Thankfully, there are a wealth of tools and resources out there to guide content creation efforts.

Here at Pink Dog Digital, we use many of these tools in our day-to-day process of helping our clients and their websites and social pages create great content. Here are some of our favorite tools that you may be able to put to use yourself!

Content Planning Tools

Content planning is a necessary part of great content creation because it helps you stay on track with your strategy. Every algorithm, from Google to Facebook, values regular content updates as part of their ranking formulas.

At Pink Dog Digital, we use a tool called HeyOrca when creating content calendars for our clients. HeyOrca is built to handle just about every part of the planning process for social media pages. You can create drafts of the posts you want to share, send a calendar to another person for review and approval, and schedule your posts for specific dates and times. It even has built-in reporting and some AI features to make the content creation process a little easier!

For website content, there’s a slew of tools you can use. Many swear by card-based project management systems like Trello and Asana, but they may not be your style. PDD uses the Teamwork PM system, which lays out tasks in a list or calendar format. This may be a great solution for you, especially if your content planning team consists of more than a couple of people.

Writing Tools

If you’re creating written content, ensuring that your work is grammatically accurate and free of misspellings is vital. Our writers use a couple of tools that make this part straight-forward. Grammarly is a plug-in for Google Chrome that will check your written work for errors automatically. The free version only features spellcheck and limited grammar checks, while the paid version has more extensive feedback.

Another amazing free tool is the Hemingway Editor. This tool excels in showing you places where your content can be simplified. It includes a readability checker which is quite handy in helping you write content for your target audience.

Visual Content Creation Tools

You don’t need to be a whiz with Photoshop to create good visual content. PDD recommends Canva, a tool that packs much of the functionality of Adobe’s premier tool in a simple-to-use package. Even the most artistically-challenged can create professional, good-looking visuals with this tool!
