Meta Switches Up Stance on “Recurring Notifications”

Meta Recurring Notifications

Anyone clued into social media news knows about Meta (formerly Facebook) and all the changes and challenges the social media giant has faced. Throughout the company’s history, they have been focused on the more “social” parts of social media.

This was expressed in their stringent rules for how businesses could use their platforms to contact users. In the past, Meta was strict about how often, and in what ways, businesses could directly contact users. The company didn’t want the platform to be overtaken by advertisements and promotions.

As Meta’s public fortune has shifted, it seems so to has their stance on businesses and brands contacting consumers. At last week’s “Conversations” conference, Meta announced they are promoting a new premium feature called “Recurring Notifications.”

What is Recurring Notifications?

Recurring Notifications is a new feature Meta has announced for WhatsApp, and eventually the Meta platform. What it means is that businesses can schedule recurring messages to users. Businesses can choose to schedule sending out promotions, newsletters, or any other kind of message they wish to customers.

Why is this a Big Deal?

In the past, social media platforms Meta owned were not very conducive to businesses using them for growing their brand. In fact, Meta actively put in obstacles that limited how often, and in what way, businesses could directly reach out to customers and users.

This change in the platform suggests that Meta is going to slowly open up all of its platforms to be more open to businesses directly reaching out to consumers.

The recurring aspect of the messages is also a big deal. This means that businesses won’t have to individually send out messages to users. Instead, a business will be able to schedule messages to users. This combines Meta’s social media applications and social media scheduling websites into a useful and popular social media tool.

Traditionally, social media scheduling websites are pay to use. And in that same fashion, Meta has announced that its Recurring Notifications function will be a premium tool, meaning that it has to be paid for.

However, in this early trial period, Recurring Notifications can be used for free. If businesses are interested in this new outreach tool Meta has given them, now is the time to try while it’s free!

It will be interesting to see how this bold gamble pays out for Meta. There’s a chance this is a massive step in social media platforming; integrating proprietary social media sites with social media scheduling tools would be a huge leap in Meta’s market share of social media and social media tools.
