Strategies for Increasing Instagram Engagement

If you are looking for ways to increase engagement on Instagram, you are not the only one. With over 500 million active users on Instagram daily, it is no wonder that improving engagement is a constant challenge for brands. Millions of businesses are competing for user’s attention and trying to build a loyal following.

Even with the competition, Instagram is still one of the best social media platforms to showcase your brand, products, and services.

Instead of forfeiting Instagram altogether, try these new strategies that are guaranteed to help you reach your target audience and build an engaged following.

Producing Saveable Content

Aside from likes and comments, creating savable content is crucial to any successful Instagram strategy. In 2016, Instagram introduced the “Save” feature as a way for users to mark the content they want to come back to and look at again.

A like indicates the user simply saw the post and enjoyed the content – a save means the user finds the post to be valuable and worth remembering.

Content worth saving is different for every user. This content takes many forms, including checklists, recipes, to-do lists, guides, infographics, or quotes. It is important for businesses to identify what their audience finds important and valuable.

Promote Engagement Through Instagram Stories

If you want to build an engaged community, you must engage with them. Instagram Stories are the perfect place for finding new ways to encourage engagement. Instagram is always updating and introducing new Stickers, such as a question, quiz, countdown, chat, and poll.

All of these stickers help both brands and users get to know each other better. They open the line of communication to encourage feedback, opinions, and interest.

Schedule your Instagram Stories

Even though Instagram Stories stick around for 24 hours, the results are always better when the majority of users view them right away. If you do not schedule your stories based on your audience, you are most likely not posting at the right time.

Luckily, Instagram provides analytics conveniently located right on the app. At the top right corner of your profile page, click the hamburger menu. Under Insights, companies can find analytics for their posts, stories, activity, and audience.

At the bottom of the Audience page, the Followers section will show the best time to post based on when your audience is most active on each day.

Longer Captions

Surprisingly enough, when comparing posts with captions under 100 words to posts with captions over 500 words, the posts with longer captions tend to get the most engagement.

A longer caption gives companies the opportunity to say something meaningful that will resonate with their followers. Captions should tell a story that captivates the audience and makes users want to respond or comment.

Captions are also a great platform for brands to keep their followers informed on any new products, services, events, specials, or goals.
