Google Ads To Release Credits For Small Businesses

To help businesses impacted by the COVID-19 crisis, Google Ads has announced a $340 million credit for eligible small businesses.

As we said previously, now is not the time to pause marketing efforts. These credits will help SMBs not only continue marketing products and services but also be able to stay in touch with customers during this unprecedented time.

With a majority of small and medium-sized businesses either closed indefinitely or working remotely, this ad credit will help focus revenue on supporting employees and continuing business.

Who is eligible?

Small and medium-sized businesses are eligible to receive Ad credits if they have been active since the beginning of 2019.

Businesses that have advertised in at least 10 out of 12 months in 2019, as well as both January and February of 2020.

This means any new accounts, and those that have not spent any money since 2019, are ineligible.

If an advertiser or agency is managing multiple client accounts through the MCC, My Client Center, each eligible SMB will receive their own ad credit.

How many credits will SMBs receive?

Each eligible business will receive one Google Ad credit. But how much that credit is worth will vary business to business. It will be based on the country and currency, as well as how much the SMB has spent on advertisements in the past.

Even though SMBs will only receive one ad credit, this credit does not have to be used all at once. Businesses can choose to use portions of the credit to pay for several smaller ad campaigns, or for a bigger one-time advertisement.

When will the credits be issued?

Eligible small and medium-sized businesses will begin receiving ad credits starting in late May of 2020. Businesses will be notified when the ad credit is applied and it will be visible in their Google Ads account.

The ad credit can be put towards any campaign goals or campaign types. The credit can also be applied to anything across the Google Ads platform including Search, Display, and YouTube.

Since these ad credits are meant to help SMBs in the wake of the coronavirus, they must be used before December 31, 2020. Any ad credit, or a portion, that is unused at the start of 2021 will be revoked.

The free credit is only available for future advertisements. SMBs will not be allowed to put the credit towards past or current Google Ads.

What else is Google doing to help?

In addition to $340 million dollars worth of ad credits, Google has also established a fund that will allow financial institutions to help small businesses. Google has also designated $20 million in ad grants for those financial institutions to promote SMB’s relief funds and resources.
